Infrastructure Enhancements Project Overview

The Project is the provision of a new 4-platform Railway Station at Cambridge to support the two local hospitals, high profile biomedical campus stakeholders and the local community. The Infrastructure Enhancements project is funded by the DfT with an aspirational Entry into Service milestone of March 2025. The Project will deliver:
  • A new station Building (East and West Entrance)
  • 4 No. Platforms, Canopies and SME Footbridge
  • Mechanical and Electrical Plant including lifts
  • Ancillary Civils (troughing Routes, UTXs, Foundations for Locs, REBs, Signals etc)
  • Formation for Permanent Way – (Off Track)
  • OLE Foundations / Operational Telecoms/Track and Surface Drainage
  • Signalling/Utilities Diversion

Our Services

  • Commercial Management of the project throughout the construction phase of the project on behalf of Network Rail, including
  • Procurement of three main Contractors via a competitive tender exercise utilising a Hub and spoke contract mechanism.
  • Full cost reporting and Forecasting advice and contract administration adhering the NR Commercial Governance regulations.
  • Provision of strategic advice to the Project sponsors and steak holders

Conclusion

Drumacross’s procurement and commercial management services have assisted Network Rail to achieve a contract award date for all major works on time and within the challenging budget set by the client.  Site works commenced on 10th January 24, and the station is planned to be ready for opening to meet the May 2026 timetable change, within strict time constraints fixed by the client. Our team also supported stakeholders to gain relevant funding and pass various governance gateways throughout the development phase.
