E&P Renewals & Minor Enhancements (Eastern Region)

E&P Renewals Project Overview

The Eastern Region consist of the Anglia and East midlands routes. E&P Renewals portfolio includes the renewals and minor enhancement of overhead line electrification equipment, Uninterruptible power supply points, Distribution Network Operators, Swing bridges, power supply and removing hazards in railway infrastructure. These projects are essential for ensuring the safety, reliability, and sustainability of the railway infrastructure. These projects are predominantly funded by the UK Government through annualised budget provisions.

Mark1 Overhead Line Equipment (OLE) Renewals

Mark1 strategic renewal project was required to improve performance through increased reliability of the OLE System (MK1) on the Thames side Route. The dilapidated MK1 equipment was commissioned in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and is near life expectancy, therefore demands greater maintenance and monitoring. The project consists of the mid-life refurbishment of Mk1 OLE, the design of a new OLE system (UKMS-R1) and provide a step change in OLE performance. It will deliver 143 wire runs and 99 structures across Network Rail’s Control Periods 6 and 7. The project includes complete renewal of insulators, supporting cantilever arrangements, registration components, under bridge arms, termination equipment, contact and catenary conductors, neutral sections and all in span equipment as well as replacement of 99 no. OLE structures. The structures to be replaced are due to a mixture of asset condition and design changes. Duration: September 2018 to March 2026
